Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition that causes pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand and arm. The condition is caused when one of the major nerves to the hand — the median nerve — is compressed as it travels through a narrow passageway in the wrist called the carpal tunnel.

What Causes Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

  • Repetitive motions (such as crocheting, typing, or any other movements that involve the use of the wrist and fingers over and over again).
  • Certain medical conditions (such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, and obesity)
  • Pregnancy
  • Prior injuries to the wrist
